With PLATEAU, Erik Magnussen fuses table and chair into a world of its own. Its shell closes in on you, inviting exchange and reflection. Its armrest provides room for your laptop or coffee cup. Its presence makes a persuasive testimony to anyone in the gray-zone, a state between work and play.

Specifications

DESIGN
Erik Magnussen designed the PLATEAU, which was launched in 2009.

Description:
The chair is for lounge and reception areas as well as for the home.

Dimensions:

  • Height 121 cm
  • Seat height 36 cm
  • Width 90 cm
  • Depth 84 cm

Weight (complete chair):

  • 17.5 kg

Execution:
The chair is named PLATEAU because the right armrest has a larger flat surface where you can place relevant things. PLATEAU is a lounge chair, which reflects modern times, where leisure and work converge together.

PLATEAU is 122 cm high and is placed on a highly polished aluminum base, which is available with or without an automatic return swivel. PLATEAU is made of hard foam, affixed by polyurethane foam, which makes for a comfortable seat. The organic form challenges the upholstery work to the extreme, which created new manufacturing processes, which, among other things, have minimized the number of seams. The chair comes with leather or fabric upholstery.

Shell:
The shell is fully upholstered and consists of two pieces of fabric or leather, one for the seat and one for the back.

Foot:
The foot is made of highly polished aluminum.

SWIVEL
One can choose between “automatic return twist” or “free rotating.”

Meet the designer

Erik Magnussen

Erik Magnussen was born in Copenhagen in 1940. As a newly graduated ceramicist in the sixties, he started working for the then highly esteemed Copenhagen porcelain industry. Before long, he broke from tradition and created modern services with few multi-functional parts to avoid repeating the mistakes of the earlier multi-functional services.

He later applied this idea to the tabletop and furniture industries and went on to design the thermos for Stelton and the stackable chair, CHAIRIK®, for Engelbrechts. Both products are typical examples of how Erik Magnussen wipes the slate clean each time he begins on a new project and starts from scratch with the sole goal of improvement.

PLATEAU

The Danish creative designer Claus Boman together with French interior designer Laurence Laneau were invited by Hong Kong based BrandImage to create the conceptual interior for Elegant, a famous watch store in Hong Kong.

Elegant frames a variety of luxury watch brands, like a gallery frames the paintings of an artist! These frames create Elegant's business identity and overall brand, a guarantee for the timepieces presented.

In IFC Mall, Claus Boman and Laurence Laneau took the gallery concept literally, creating large square stone frames like that of a picture frame, but instead of housing paintings, they invited Cartier, Blancpain, Piaget and many more watch companies to create their own "art" that represented their identity, featuring their artistic (time)pieces inside the stone frames.

In the VIP section they placed Plateau Lounge Chairs.
